Homage to Shelley from a Mountain Peak

Surely among these soaring peaks

Shelley’s words ring true for me

Here where mountain touches sky

We, for this brief moment, have

“outsoar’d the shadows of our night,

Envy and calumny,

Hate and pain”

Here we can stop and linger, untouched

Freed momentarily

“from the contagion

Of this world’s slow stain”.

Here, where mountain rises like a cathedral

Reaching up, we can touch heaven

Before descending yet again

To that “unrest men miscall delight”.
